Destiny Day Spa

What started out as a simple, small massage therapy business is now one of the largest day spa and salons in the Ark-La-Tex. Kristi Tift, owner of Destiny Day Spa in Bossier City (and licensed massage therapist) and her dedicated therapists and technicians have built a sanctuary that not only offers services, they offer experiences. Originally known as Spa 2000 19 years ago, Destiny is the end result of a 10 year journey made by a very close group of therapists and technicians. “We aren’t your typical set up, we expect our contractors to be dynamic and bring their own sense of experience to the table,” said Tift. “We have all females with the exception three males – we really enjoy offering a business in our community that allows women to succeed in their field, grow their clientele, and sustain their careers,” she said. “I’m in the process of becoming a personal coach, I also book speaking engagements which help me utilize that training in the spa - I enjoy using those experiences to coach people up and keep them motivated.” Tift is proud of the team at Destiny Day Spa, and feels like two in particular have helped contribute to the business’s success. Lead technician Kandie Winchester started at Spa 2000 in 1999 as a massage therapist. “Kandie started dropping hints about doing spa services and adding body treatments and European facials. That’s really what kind of set us on the path to be a day spa,” said Tift. “Kandie is also a licensed nail tech. Now, she didn’t just wake up one morning and think ‘I want to go to nail tech school’ - she saw the need to fill that spot because those girls are hard to find,” said Tift. “Awesome, artistic nail techs aren’t falling off trees. She was so dedicated to the success of Destiny, she went to school in order to fill a need and develop that area of the spa, only to realize she loves and is an amazing nail artist. We appreciate having cross-trained team members that are dual licensed. We have a lot of unique talent on our team.” Another key member of the Destiny Day Spa team is Courtenay Netherland. “When we moved to the (Louisiana) Boardwalk in 2006, I needed someone who could run the front desk as we had increased our team from 5 to 25, all of which are independent contractors. It takes a special person to be able to coordinate that many therapists, clients, services, and so forth” said Tift. Having known Netherland since 2004, she brought her on as spa and salon manager in 2007. “Courtenay has really been the heart of the business and I feel like she deserves the gratitude,” said Tift. “She brings a unique spin - she greets clients by name, knows the services they enjoy, and ensures great customer service for every guest - she is very knowledgeable and our clients love her.” “Kandie and Courtenay are really the inside brains for me right now. They are more of a presence at Destiny than I am because I do so much outside work to bring people into the spa. Without them or the rest of our team, past and present, Destiny would not be what it is today. They are the ones that make me look good” says Tift. Having such a solid group working at Destiny Day Spa and Salon has allowed Tift to work on building relationships in the area. “In the last few years we have really started giving back to the community on a larger scale - I’m a co-chair and diplomat for the Bossier Chamber of Commerce and enjoy volunteering in our business community. Because of the support from our city and local communities, I can look back at where we started and where we are now, reflect upon the success of Destiny and feel a sense of pride in how much we have contributed and supported growth in the city I grew up,” she explained.
