Chateau en Mae
Rebecca Evans, owner of Chateau en Mae, has been blessed to find her calling early on in life. At only 26, Evans just passed the one year mark since opening her store - named for her grandmother. “I opened the store on April 25, 2014 as a tribute to my grandmother Mary Ann Evans who we affectionately call “Mae”. She was an interior decorator in Houston for many years,” explained Evans. After graduating from LSU in Baton Rouge with a degree in fashion merchandising, she worked in different stores as well as did some personal training, but always had the goal in mind to open her own business. “The further I got out of school, I really realized it (opening her business) was something I wanted to do. I had worked in retail and loved retail and everything that comes with it, and
thought Shreveport could use something a little more transitional, as we tend to be extremely traditional in this area,” she said. “I was interested in bringing in some new styles and looks that appeal to people of all ages. There’s really something in here for everyone,” she explained.
Chateau en Mae can provide expert advice on all things interior design. “We offer consultations - we can do different layouts for different areas of your home,” said Evans. “We don’t get involved with construction but do everything that is cosmetic - helping pick the best backsplash or kitchen counters for your kitchen, room layouts and drapes, etc. We provide custom bedding and drapery. I have some in-house associates that help me with all of that which is great. Any cosmetic facelift you would want to do to your home we can do.”
In addition to interior design consultation and services, Chateau en Mae also has a wide variety of gifts from jewelry to candles to wine glasses and everything in between. “I have a team of three ladies that are here, and if you’re out looking for something specific they are very familiar with all of our vendors and they can show our clients options. I have some great teammates that help me in a lot of ways” said Evans.
As a business owner, there are many important facets to nurture, but there is one value Evans holds most dear. “I really value customer service. I stress repeatedly to myself and my employees that customer service is number one. It’s the number one way that this business is going to succeed. I want to create a culture of excellent service for our clients,” she said.
In her spare time, Evans is a member at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and is an advocate for Petsavers. “I love spending time with my animals and volunteering with any of the non-profit animal shelters in the area. I also have a fiancé (soon to be husband),Matthew Graham, that I like to give a little bit of my time to once in a while,” Evans joked.
Chateau en Mae just had their one year anniversary party, and Evans is quick to point out who the celebration was really about. “We just want the public to know that we have been a success thus far because of them and their loyal support of our business,” she said. Having that first successful year under her belt has also inspired Evans to inspire others. “I love being my own boss; if there’s something you really believe in and aspire to do, go for it!”
