FUN WITH THE GIRLS JULY 18: A TASTE OF CULTURE, This culinary event, sponsored by The Multicultural Center of the South and DiamondJacks Casino, provides an array of gourmet food and entertainment from India as well as 26 other cultures. The events begins at 6 p.m. at DiamondJacks Casino. Admission is $50. AUG. 1: NEST FEST, The annual fundraiser will feature food, live music, a silent auction and the second annual chairished beginning design competition. The event is a fundraiser for the Renseting Project, Inc. which helps clients transitioning from homelessness in Shreveport-Bossier City and is from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Bossier Civic Center. FUN FOR THE FAMILY FRIDAYS THROUGH JULY 24: MALL ST. VINCENT SOUTH HIGHLAND SUMMER MARKET, Every Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. under a large tent in the Mall St. Vincent parking lot, the community can enjoy 20 of the area’s most talented chefs, gardeners, artists and handcrafters along with live music.

The farmers market takes place in Festival Plaza at 101 Crockett St. from Market Street to Commerce Street. Saturday markets take place from 7 a.m. to noon through Aug. 29. Tuesday markets are 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. through July 14 at the east end of Festival Plaza featuring homegrown fruits, vegetables and meats. EVERY SUNDAY THROUGH AUG.30 CONCERT SERIES, Shopping and music come together during this summer concert series at King’s Antique Mall, located at 133 King’s Highway. Every Sunday a local artist will perform a free concert to patrons from 2 to 6 p.m. Store hours are noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. Haley Brooke will perform July 12.

FUN WITH THE CHILDREN JULY 9, 16, 23, 30: BIOLOGY & ART EXPLORATION PROGRAM, Four days with four different themes tying biology and art together to help kids learn in a fun environment that challenges both the right and left brain. The series is from 9 a.m. to noon at the Rainforest Art Foundation’s Young Artist Gallery located at 710 Travis St., Shreveport. Admission is free, and parents are required to be present with children. Activities are designed for children ages 3-10, but all ages welcome. Call 717-9111. JULY 13-16: BACK TO SCHOOL HEALTHY CHECK UP REGISTRATION, Register your child for the annual event at Sci- Port: Louisiana Science Center that helps children have a healthy start to the school year from 3 to 7 p.m. by calling 681-6100. Registration is only available during this time and over the phone. The Back to School Healthy Checkup is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 31 at Sci-Port. This annual health fair is an opportunity for children to receive a free checkup by medical professionals (blood pressure, immunization check, BMI, dental and vision screenings). Children must be registered in order to participate. JULY 13-17: PYSCHO CYCLED, This summer program teaches students to find a way using found items to express creativity outside the typical sphere of thinking. JULY 27-31: ROBINSON FILM CENTER COMEDY CAMP, Students grades 6-12 are welcome to use their comedic chops to write and star in a short comedy film. JULY 31: BACK TO SCHOOL HEALTHY CHECK UP, CHRISTUS Health Shreveport-Bossier and SciPort: Louisiana’s Science Center along with the other healthcare and social service agencies partner for this event to ensure that children have access to healthcare each year before the school year starts. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sci-Port and is an opportunity for children to receive a free checkup by medical professionals. Once each child has completed a checkup and visited four social service agencies, they will receive a new backpack with school supplies. Children also receive free admission to Sci-Port and can stay all day enjoying the many activities including a sno-cone truck, free books and other prizes. AUG. 3-7, 10-17: GSK SCIENCE IN THE SUMMER, The courses will use the GSK Science in the Summer chemistry curriculum. The course is targeted at students entering second through sixth grades and is led by science educators.
