Sold out event honors doctors, caregivers

A sold out crowd April 30 filled the Shreveport Convention Center for the LSU Health Sciences Foundation’s An Evening for Healers. George and Clare Nelson chaired the event and Willis-Knighton Health System was the title sponsor. Guests heard stories of the LSU physicians and caregivers who brought hope and healing to patients and their families. The Moffitt family joined their father, Fred Moffitt, who was successfully treated for carcinoma of the gum. His healer was Dr. Ghali Ghali. Another story was Parkinson’s patient David Belanger, who underwent deep brain stimulation, and toddler Hailey Clutter, who had a rare kidney cancer and underwent surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and blood transfusions. Medical student Gene Robichaux played piano tunes in the lobby. Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry donated the medallions presented to participants.
