Lydia EarhartMy name first appeared in print when I wrote in a question to Miss Manners. Back then, I wanted to be “word-famous.” I must have been 10.
Per my grandmother, I read just about every one of her syndicated columns relating to manners and how to handle sticky situations with tact and class.
I was a fan of her column and found myself wanting to send in a question. After racking my brain, I wrote her for some advice. Plainly, it was concerning whether or not to speak up or let it go. After about a month or so, I figured my letter had made a home in a nest of snail mail at her office.
Then I saw it and Miss Manners saw right through my question. She was brilliant! I must have re-read her answer a million times.
I wondered if she found me encouraging as a 10-year-old reader. Though I may not grow to the success of Judith Martin, aka Miss Manners, in my role as the editor of CityLife, I constantly and affectionately consider you, our reader. When you share your stories and your thoughts it makes my job worthwhile.
The response from last month’s issue was quite humbling to say the least. Through all the phone calls requesting more information about the Twin City Knockers, emails asking for a Chef John Strand recipe and nominations for local women to be in the “Beautiful Life Series,” I was pleased you reached out to share your thoughts.
Your opinion matters to me, personally, and if you ever have a chance, let me know your thoughts on CityLife. We consider it our duty to represent you in the most flattering and beautiful manner possible.
The women of Shreveport-Bossier City are unstoppable, and it is our privilege to share more about the electrifying female talent that surrounds this city – just like the wives of Flying Heart Brewing in Bossier City.
This is a must-read story for every husband and wife who have ever worked together. Three wives and three husbands formed a business that has a foundation built on supporting a community of nonprofits and residents. Read more on Page 30.
Plus, you have to taste their beer. I won’t make it through this hot summer without a weekly cold stout from Flying Heart.
