The Enchanted Garden

Deb Cockrell, owner of The Enchanted Garden in Shreveport has spent a lifetime creating. “I started when I was six years old. I’d make things and go door to door to the neighbors and they would always buy whatever I had. Then I would have little boutique shows at my parents - and I did that all the way through school,” she said. “After I graduated from college I lived in San Francisco for a while and helped my brother with his shop The Enchanted Crystal - that’s why I named mine The Enchanted Garden so that people could relate it to his store. It’s really amazing how many people in this world have actually been to both stores - San Francisco and Shreveport. His store is still open - going on 42 years.”

The Enchanted Garden is celebrating 35 years in business, and all of those years in the same location. “James and I got married in 1980 and opened later that year. It has grown so much - the next year the building next door became available and we were ready to expand with all the unique and fabulous gifts purchased from Atlanta, Dallas, New York, and West Coast gift shows. You can just kind of go explore,” she said. “Some people have been coming from the beginning, and we have new people every day visit Shreveport-Bossier and discover us. Recently, 50 tour guides even included us on their stops while touring our cities. People can have fun shopping here for hours seeing wonderful things they have never seen before!” If you’re looking for a Mother’s Day, wedding, birthdays, graduation gift or treating yourself, The Enchanted Garden has a great selection to choose from. “Each room has something I love. Right now our jewelry has been so popular that I haven’t had much time to leave the front room! Between the Ginger Snaps jewelry that start at $6.99 that have interchangeable pieces that you can change every day. We also feature the new Petite Ginger Snaps Collection - great for high school and college age girls,” said Cockrell. “Kameleon jewelry is a beautiful sterling line of jewelry that has interchangeable jewel pops. The rings are the most popular - you can change your look with every outfit.” They also offer a wide variety of bath specialties, ladies accessories, Louisiana gifts, cards, Dept. 56 villages, as well as baby gifts and Melissa & Doug Toys.

Cockrell is proud of making it to such a landmark year in business. “35 years is neat - I figure I’ll be 110 asking, ‘Can I help you?’,” she joked. “I have the best customers - they’re like family and friends that shop here. It’s just a fun place to be each day. A lot of people spend their lives in jobs they don’t care for, but I love my job. I love the people, I love creating, so it’s just a nice environment to be in each day.”
