What inspires your writing? DEROSIA: Books, blogs, podcasts, TED Talks and engaging more fully in everyday activities. I’ve gone to the World Domination Summit the past two summers. WDS is conference in Portland, Ore., for unconventional, creative people around themes of community, adventure and service. Learning how to apply these themes in real life is a major inspiration for Thrive Anywhere Project.
Q: What first prompted you toward starting this blog? DEROSIA: Thrive Anywhere Project (ThriveAnywhereProject. com) is inspired by a combination of books, blogs, conferences and personal experiences. I wanted to start a conversation about how people could apply inspiration from documentaries, books, TED talks and personal interests in their daily lives and communities. There is too much happening in the world around us to wait for someone else to fix the problems we see. The digital era makes it possible to teach yourself how to do almost anything, connect with like-minded people, share creative work and for a single person to affect change in a powerful way. We are also living in a time of extreme stress and uncertainty. Thriving where we are requires us to find ways to stay grounded and take meaningful action in the world.
Q: How often do you blog? DEROSIA: Once a week on Wednesdays.
Q: What would you say is the ultimate goal or point of your blog? DEROSIA: Thrive Anywhere Project is an invitation to grow where you are before leaving your current situation. We live in a world now where we all have to learn how to be more resilient and take advantage of the opportunities in front of us. I hope the blog will help readers develop the skills and habits they need to live great lives in our community. The more citizens we have realizing their dreams in Shreveport-Bossier the greater our city will become.
Q: What does a day-in-the-life look like for you?
DEROSIA: Every day looks a little different right now. My week consists of a combination of work, taking online classes, writing for the blog, meetings with various organizations in town and quality time with family and friends. We live in an era where it is extremely easy to find answers to questions. I have found that continuing to ask questions over time leads to better ones. You see themes and need a way to regularly apply what you’re learning. Blogging is a wonderful platform for this purpose.
Q: How do you juggle your career with your other responsibilities? DEROSIA: Time management and a good day planner. Balancing work, school and community involvement is definitely a challenge. Life is busy, but I make time for fun too. I’ve got wonderful friends and a lot of family in town. Their support means a lot to me!
Q: Does faith play a role in your life? DEROSIA: Faith absolutely plays a role in my life. The world we live in today needs us to grow in consciousness, joy and courage. I try to live in a way that embodies those values.
Q: Can you tell me more about SBC Visionaries? DEROSIA:SBC Visionaries (sbcvisionaries.com) is a group I started with a friend of mine, Halley Rachal, a little over two years ago. The group is for creative young adults who want to make a difference in our community. We meet up once a month to do something social and to support cultural events around town.
Q: What advice would you give other women regarding pursuing their dreams? DEROSIA: I would encourage them to identify their dreams and make a plan to realize them. Women should feel free to pursue a path that fulfills them as individuals. We can put a lot of pressure on ourselves to know exactly what we want before trying new things. Confidence will come with experience.
