HISTORY | UIS New Voices on Racial Justice Series “White talk” is about rejecting racism, recognizing shared experiences and praising equality. On Tuesday, join Dr. Alison Bailey, director of the Women’s and Gender Studies program at Illinois State University, for a program focused on how “white talk” steers racially charged discussion toward the moral goodness of the speaker and away from white privilege, effectively defending the speaker from vulnerabilities such as feeling like a participant in privilege. Bailey’s presentation focuses on how to become open to understanding such privilege and motivate change, as well as how to break patterns of “white talk” in order to become a better anti-racist. This presentation is part of UIS’s New Voices on Racial Justice Series, created by Dr. Roxanne Kurtz, a UIS Philosophy associate professor.
