THROUGH FEB. 13: “SELFIES: FROM DIGITAL TO PHYSICAL,” Selfies, the president, rock stars, famous athletes and everyone in between have all become obsessed with self images on the cell phone. These icons of self reflection are the focus of Northwest Louisiana artist Amanda Roe’s most recent work opening at artspace. THROUGH MARCH 31: ART BY BRAD SMITH, The Bossier Arts Council is happy to announce Brad Smith as the latest local artist for the Emerging Artist Gallery. Smith is a largely self-taught painter who works various styles and subject matters. FEB. 13: “CREOLE WORLD: PHOTOGRAPHS OF NEW ORLEANS AND LATIN CARIBBEAN SPHERE” is a new exhibit at Centenary College’s Meadows Museum that features the photography of Richard Sexton, with more than 50 vibrant images on loan from The Historic New Orleans Collection. A free opening reception sponsored by the Friends of the Meadows Museum will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sexton will give a gallery talk at 6 p.m. In conjunction with the exhibition, the Meadows will host a free lecture by Centenary sociology professor Dr. Loren Demerath at 6:30 p.m. March 2 titled “The Good (Social) Life in Lesser Developed Countries,” based on his original research. THROUGH APRIL 30: ARTWORK OF MIKE TORMA, The Bossier Arts Council presents Mike Torma’s artwork on display at Boomtown Casino’s 1800 Prime Steakhouse. An opening reception is Feb. 11 with food and wine pairings by Chef Konstantin Plavnik and music by Twang Darkly. THROUGH MAY 15: #HASHTAGGING HISTORY EXHIBIT, This special exhibit will explore famous hashtags as well as a unique look at historical figures through a modern format. The exhibit is in the North Wing Exhibition Galleries. FEB. 3: “PROTECT YOURSELF,” a free legal workshop for women on Identity Theft, Consumer Scams and Predatory Lending Practices will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Broadmoor Branch Library. This workshop is the second in a series co-sponsored by the YWCA of Northwest Louisiana and Legal Services of North Louisiana. Attorneys from Legal Services will present helpful information for women on these topics relating to personal and financial safety.
