COOKING with Accents Festival Frenzy German-Style In October, Germany goes wild with festivals all over the country, one bigger than Munich’s Octoberfest. Most of us who have heard of Octoberfest think of huge beer-drinking tents with live polka bands and giant steins hoisted by ladies in braided pigtails wearing Lederhosen. Those of us who have been there know that those images are exactly what it looks and sounds like. But I can tell you from personal experience that there is so much more: food, dance, fellowship and fun at every turn. Of course, my focus is the food part. Germany’s food isn’t necessarily known for being elegant and frou-frou, but it is hearty and packed with flavor. So in celebration of festival season German-style, I offer these scrumptious and comforting samples of authentic festival pleasures. Serve these with a large, frothy Pilsner and enjoy life!
