I got a little nostalgic imagining all the memories and traditions that Glenwood has been a part of. Where else in Shreveport could you have English tea and scones in the perfect tea cup? As I walked through the tearoom around lunchtime, I spotted a couple enjoying tea and each other’s company.

The Road to Rescue
Ninna Lopez founded Ninna’s Road to Rescue in 2012 after working as a shelter manager of a large no-kill shelter for five years. She wanted to provide dogs and cats a better life. She wanted to give them an environment where they were able to live in a home that prepares them for their new life once adopted.

The Art of Ballet
Five days a week, Wells practices ballet and maintains her grades as an honor student at Caddo Middle Magnet. Dance is a serious art to her and during this season, her performance will be rich in the minds of the community as the tradition of The Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” will hit the stage at RiverView Hall in Shreveport.

Quiet Ritual
More than a few people in this community can measure their family milestones by the cups of tea they’ve enjoyed at the Glenwood Village and Tearoom. Sadly, owner Sharon McCullar has announced her retirement and plans to close the tearoom sometime after Christmas in early 2016.

A MOMENT FOR TEA
Select cups and plates that are beautiful and feel good in the hand. They don’t have to be formal or even match. Thrift stores, flea markets and estates sales are great places to search for vintage pieces to mix and match, or pick up a new piece each time you travel.

ANNA BROWN BEAUTY and the legal briefs
Anna Brown, an LSU graduate from Slidell, moved to Shreveport with her fiancé over two years ago and works in the legal field. As a member of several organizations, including the Shreveport Bar Association and the Young Lawyer Division, she spends most of her time volunteering for organizations that are important to her.

WARMING up to winter

Chimp Haven Gala
Chimp Haven celebrated 20 years of providing and promoting the best care of sanctuary for chimpanzees and inspiring action for the species worldwide. To celebrate this major anniversary, Chimp Haven hosted a 1920’s themed gala Nov. 7 at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino.

Mad Hatter’s Ball
Celebrity designer and hat maker Jane Ryder showcased her designs on Oct. 31 at artspace. Savory bites, delicious desserts, a cash bar were provided. Guests also had the opportunity to bid on silent auction items, which featured some of the work from local artists.
