Editor’s Note
Each fall when we come back to production on CityLife for the September issue, I think about how to reinvent the wheel with our usual themes. For our annual fall fashion shoot, I wanted to do something different and tell a story or better yet, tell their story.

odd MOM out
It’s our first day of Pre-K3. I have the perfect smocked dress for Tilly. An aqua gingham fabric with red rickrack trim and smocked apples with a big red bow for her hair and Sun Sandals to match. My daughter is the picture of preschool perfection. She’s smart.

TUNE-IN & TUNE-UP
I wonder how many of you have “broken” bikes in your garage collecting dust. Maybe a tire is flat, a chain is misguided, or there’s a clicking sound that just won’t stop. For one needed fix or another, your bike hasn’t made an appearance on the streets of Shreveport-Bossier City since, well, when again?.

Cozy in kindergarten
I know, most parents are probably cheering that school is starting, and the boredom children have been complaining about is over. The commercials and advertising are everywhere. I can probably count on two hands the amount of spam mail I get daily, urging me to hurry up and buy their door buster deals or to buy every $5 T-shirt they have in stock.

Hibachi with a twist
The first time I saw the use of “y” between the two names, I had the misconception it would be a Mexican, Spanish or Nuevo Latino restaurant, so I was a little surprised when he explained Jabez y Jabes is a hibachi steakhouse featuring Japanese cuisine.

The Girl with the Golden Pen
“I’ve always doodled, and I’ve always had a fascination with fonts. I’ve always been artsy; I’ve always loved handmade stuff. The thing is, I’m always my worst critic, and people have told me I have good handwriting, but I never saw it. There’s so much about it that’s popular right now that helps me see how I could use my handwriting,” she said.

Women Who Care, Share

Julia McGrew
As she sits in her kitchen chair to get her hair curled, chaos is happening behind her in the kitchen. Everything is scattered everywhere around the room. Drawers are open, the sink is filled with dishes and one of the middle children is working on an experiment that hopefully he won’t taste.
