Adria Goins is the morning face helping Shreveport-Bossier City wake up in style on KSLA 12. Her outgoing personality beams through the screen and is matched with a personal style admired by the community.

How long have you been a local anchor? Goins: I’ve been in the TV business for 11 years now, but I’ve been part of the KSLA News 12 team for the past five years. I spent the first four years as a sports anchor. Last year, I joined KSLA News 12 ‘This Morning’ as co-anchor where you can catch me every weekday morning from 5 to 7 a.m.

Do you pick out your clothes the day before?

Goins: Normally, I’ll open my closet while I’m brushing my teeth before bed and skim through my dresses. That’s when I get an idea about what I want to wear in the morning. When you get up at 3 a.m. each morning, the last thing I want to think about is planning my outfit.

Tell me about your favorite outfit.

Goins: Honestly, my favorite outfit is an old T-shirt and a pair of running shorts. I was a bit of a tomboy growing up so I lived in a sports uniform or workout clothes. Don’t get me wrong, I love dressing up in a classic dress and a pair of nice heels, but my weekends are spent lounging in comfy clothes.

Do you have any fashion secrets for television?

Goins: Freeze It hairspray. It’s my go-to product. I love it! Also, solid-colored dresses. I love the classic look, and you can’t go wrong with a nice, bright, solid-colored dress that pops on TV.

Do you ever watch the news and critique your outfits?

Goins: Absolutely. And I think that’s important. I’ve bought a few dresses that I think look great on, but when I go back and look at them, they don’t look as well on TV. They get put on the ‘not for TV’ list.

Do you have a fashion icon(s) you gather inspiration from? if so, who?

Goins: I don’t necessarily have an icon, but I’d compare my look to Norah O’Donnell from ‘CBS This Morning.’ I feel like she has a crisp, classic look, which is my style. I find myself looking at her outfits each morning and making mental notes on her attire. It gives me great ideas for outfits.

Are there certain trends you emulate or stay away from being a news anchor?

Goins: I try to stay away from crazy patterns. They don’t show well on TV. I have a few dresses that push the limit with patterns. I wear those when I want to switch things up a bit.

What do viewers usually compliment you on?

Goins: Mostly on my hair. I’ve had a lot of people ask me where I get my hair done. And I get a lot of compliments on my dresses too especially my favorite red dress. Hence why it’s my favorite!

What advice would you give to women trying to be as stylish as you?

Goins: Don’t get sucked into what’s trendy. That oftentimes doesn’t translate on air. You can look stylish without looking like you’re following a trend. The classic sophisticated look is always a winner.
