Christian Dance Center
Terry Jackson, owner of Christian Dance Center, found the inspiration for her business when she was very young. “ I opened Christian Dance Center because I always loved dance but didn’t have the opportunity to learn as a child. I often feel as though I missed my opportunity so I wanted to create an opportunity for other children with dreams and aspirations,” she said.
Christian Dance Center opened in South Park Mall back in November 2002 with just 29 students.
Now located at 8805 Jewella Avenue, Suite 121 in Shreveport, CDC has grown exponentially in the 12.5 years since opening. “We now have 160 students. Our goal is to encourage 200 African American children to enrolled in ballet,” said Jackson. “Christian Dance Center is more than about teaching dance, we counsel, promote fitness and nutrition, and encourage excellence in education to make a well rounded individual.” CDC host annual recitals and perform at community events throughout the year, and offers classes in ballet, jazz, tap, liturgical, hip hop, and gymnastics for ages 4 and up. “CDC is also home of Make A Difference Dance Company (MADD, Inc.) founded in 2009 for those who serious about dance and desire a future. Company member receive free ballet classes and are required to maintain grades and behavior to remain. Current member have an average GPA of 3.5,” she said.
When Jackson isn’t teaching dance, she enjoys working out, cooking, and spending time with her family. Her husband, Msgt. Ronald Jackson, recently retired after 22 years of service in U.S. Air Force, and she has a son, Isaiah. In addition to her busy schedule at CDC, Jackson is also currently in graduate school at Northwestern State University studying to become a Nurse Practitioner. “I have no regrets. CDC is not about me, it’s about purpose.”
