WK Child Neurology
A“an fter taking on what she calls exceptional opportunity offered by Willis-Knighton,” Dr. Yuliya Snyder is excited to mark almost a year at WK Child Neurology.
“The goal of WK Child Neurology is to combine the most up-to-date medical knowledge and technology with exceptional customer service to provide the best possible care while keeping the appointments stress-free for children and their parents,” she said.
Snyder is board certified is Neurology with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology and in Neuromuscular Medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She completed her fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine and residency in Child Neurology at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, which recently has been ranked number 6 in the 25 best medical schools in America by Business Insider. She is originally from Ukraine and received her master’s and doctorate of medicine at Kharkiv State Medical University.
Snyder said her biggest accomplishment has been her growing practice. “When I started in September of 2014, I only had a recently renovated office, a little bit of furniture, and an enthusiastic staff that was unfamiliar with child neurology. Since then, we have had almost 800 patient visits and created a well- functioning and smoothly operated clinic,” she said. “This would not be possible without all of the efforts and hard work of my staff and, of course, the help and support of Willis-Knighton.”
Snyder sees a variety of general pediatric neurology cases such as seizures, developmental delays, headaches, etc. “I also enjoy working up patients with myopathies, muscular dystrophies, and polyneuropathies,” Snyder said, “and have the ability to perform electromyography and nerve conduction studies.”
Snyder said interaction with her patients is not difficult. “You just have to make the neurological examination fun and enjoy it.” Snyder said she invites the whole family into the examination room at the same time. “I usually greet the child and give them their space so they can warm up to me and make sure that I am OK,” she said. “I take time talking to the parents and when it is time for the exam – depending on the age of the child – I really have to turn it more into play because there is no way that a toddler could tell me how well they feel a pin prick or push/pull at my request for muscle strength testing.”
Snyder said the thing she enjoys the most about her job at WK Child Neurology is, “making a positive difference in patients’ lives.”
