On Tuesday, Sept. 25, take in a panel discussion regarding the Displaced Persons Act of 1948, an act that directly impacted the ethnic composition of Illinois with the influx of a large Lithuanian population in Chicago and Springfield. The panel features Robert Vitas, Sandy Baksys, Devin Hunter and Heather Bailey, and will examine the ways in which local and regional immigration relates to broader domestic and international concepts in a post-WWII world. Additionally, children of displaced persons will share their stories. This event is free and open to the public, and is co-sponsored by the UIS History Department, Lithuanian-American Club of Central Illinois and the Illinois State Historical Society.
