Illinois Stewardship Alliance recently announced its Golden Beet Award winners for 2018, highlighting the most innovative farmers, restaurants, businesses and organizations across the state promoting sustainable local food and farming. “The Golden Beet Awards are our way of drawing attention to the farmers and the community of people that come together to bring fresh, wholesome local food to their community,” said Liz Stelk, Illinois Stewardship Alliance executive director. This year’s winners were Spurgeon Veggies CSA of Rio (Innovative farmer); Cristaudo’s Cafe & Bakery in Carbondale (Restaurants and institutions); Julie Anders and the Fowler Farm Project of Champaign (Farm to school); Nature’s Farm Camp in Chicago (Community food projects); and Spence Farm Foundation Bread Camp of Fairbury (Scaling up).
