Don’t miss the 2017 Old Capitol Holiday Walks, held Wednesdays from 5-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 12-6 p.m.

through Dec. 20. The walks offer local shopping at downtown’s charming brick-and-mortar stores, pop-up shops and restaurants, plus seasonal activities and attractions for all ages. Kids will enjoy visiting with Santa in the Old State Capitol, dropping letters in the Santa Mailbox, creating children’s crafts, and taking in History Comes Alive presentations. Other highlights include Elf on the Shelf, complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides by Red Gate Farm, the Springfield Youth Performance Group’s “Elves on the Plaza,” roasted chestnuts, a lighted SMTD bus selfie station and more. Additionally, two musical performances will take place at the Old State Capitol on Saturday, Dec. 9: Seraphim at 1 p.m. and The Old Capitol Choral Singers at 4 p.m. Other special features include the Jaycees Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. and a menorah ceremony at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
