Don’t miss Theatre in the Park’s dazzling presentation of High School Musical, the contemporary musical comedy based on the 2006 Disney Channel Original Movie penned by Peter Barsocchini. The story centers on Troy, a popular high school basketball player, and Gabrielle, a shy transfer student who excels in science and mathematics. After a chance meeting on New Year’s Eve, the two realize a shared passion for singing and eventually decide to audition for lead roles in the school play together, which sends their peers into an uproar as their school’s rigid social order is threatened. In addition to the 8 p.m. performances of High School Musical, Theatre in the Park is honored to offer nightly pre-shows at 7 p.m., as well as two-hour workshops for children on Thursday and Friday, from 1-3 p.m. During the workshops, which are hosted by cast members plus directors Karla Wilhelm and Ginny Racette, children will learn a song to be performed onstage with cast members at the conclusion of that evening’s performance. For more about High School Musical, including information on tickets and workshop registration, visit http://theatreinthepark.net or call the box office at 632-5440.
