THEATER | 33 years of female friendship

Last year The Dixie Swim Club, an unforgettable comedy about five women whose friendships began 33 years ago on their college swim team, enjoyed a successful run at the Hoogland Center for the Arts. Shortly after the show’s close, its director, Susan Jeffers, fell ill and passed away. According to current The Dixie Swim Club director Deb Whitson, “The theatre community was stunned by the sudden loss of such a talented actor, director and friend. It was in our time of grief that the cast approached me and asked if they could bring The Dixie Swim Club out to Theatre in the Park as a tribute to Susan.” A year later, that dream is becoming reality, as the show will be performed six times across two weeks in honor of Susan Jeffers. Each performance will feature pre-show entertainment starting at 7 p.m. nightly. All pre-shows will feature a musical act plus a presentation by director Deb Whitson. This weekend’s pre-show music includes singer Kristinah Hanson on June 3, Indian flutist Dave Tell on June 4 and Rick Dunham as Elvis Himselvis on June 5. Tickets to all shows are available online at http://theatreinthepark.net or by calling 632-5440.
