SPORTS & FITNESS | A rockin’ race
The SOHO 10K run/walk was added to the SOHO Music Festival lineup in 2014 and is a healthy addition to the SOHO activities. The 6.2-mile point-to-point race will occur on Saturday, June 4, at 8 a.m., along the paved Sangamon Valley Trail, starting at Stuart Park and finishing at Centennial Park. The flat, fast, mostly straight course follows the abandoned path of the old St. Louis, Peoria and Northwestern Railway, making it a great course for both novice runners looking for fun and experienced racers looking to establish a new personal record. Advance registration is $50 and includes two passes plus five beverage tickets for the SOHO Music Festival as well as your race bib, 10K t-shirt, a finisher’s medal/commemorative beer bottle opener plus live music, drinks and hot food at the finish line party, which begins at noon at the SOHO Music Festival downtown. On-site race registration will be available June 3 and 4 for $60, cash only. To guarantee your spot in the SOHO 10K, preregister at http://soho10k2016. eventzilla.net.
For those who’d rather rock than run, the music portion of the festival runs on Friday, June 3, from 5pm-12am, and Saturday, June 4, from 12pm-12am. The 11 th annual music festival features 63 talented local and regional acts plus a handful of national acts, vendors, food and alcohol, a kids carnival, disc golf tournament and more.
