CHILDREN’S CORNER | Food that fuels fitness and fun Since 1901, Junior League organizations have helped women develop as civic leaders and make positive, measurable impacts on their communities through various events, programs and services. On Saturday, April 23, from 2-3 p.m., children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to join the Junior League of Springfield for its annual “Kids in the Kitchen” event, which features fun cooking activities designed to explore health and nutrition. By teaming up with chefs and other community figures, Junior League groups all across the world are able to offer children fun, informative lessons and demonstrations related to the preparation of healthy meals and snacks, while simultaneously empowering kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and related health issues. This annual event is free and open to the public. Registration is requested, and can be completed online at http://jlsil.org/community/kids-in-the-kitchen, or by calling 544-5557. See also
