BAND SPOTLIGHT | Great American Taxi/Band Spotlight Considered some of the best Americana artists touring today, the “Americana Without Borders” music of Vince Herman, Chad Staehly, Jim Lewin, Chris Sheldon and Brian Adams sparkles with rock-n-roll raunchiness, subtle piano nuances, blazing folk splashes and jam-band freedoms, roiling into a creative melting pot of brilliant musicmaking. The effervescent live performances bubble over with expert musicianship honed by years and years of playing and playing, giving the combo a wonderful mix of improvisational character backed by road-hardened experience. The group did some time as the backup band for singer-songwriter-storyteller Todd Snider, who returned the favor by producing GAT’s last recorded effort, Paradise Lost, released in 2012. On the latest record the band has “shed the jamming and gone for the throat with focused songwriting and tight musical arrangements” dealing with current issues of “mountaintop removal, nuclear energy, poor economic conditions or a soldier returning from war.” Joined at this venue by Chicago Farmer and The Blue G’s, this “Americana Dinner Show” is a truly a treat.
