ART | Masters of art The Illinois State Museum houses a new exhibition through Jan. 6, 2013, titled Luminous Ground: Artists with Histories. These 11 Illinois artists have histories because they are 78 to more than 90 years old. Each was selected as exemplars of older individuals who have remained vital and productive. They have a lifelong body of the highest caliber of work; they have had 50 to 60-plusyear careers; and they have influenced multiple artists across generations through their art and community involvement. The exhibition debuted at the Illinois State Museum Chicago Gallery in 2011 and was cited as one of the top five shows in Chicago by “Time Out Chicago” and as one of the top 10 shows by “New City.” Artists include: Ralph Arnold, Morris Barazani, Gerda Meyer Bernstein, Fred Berger (painting pictured above), William Frederick, Theodore Halkin, Thomas Kapsalis, Vera Klement, Ellen Lanyon, Elizabeth Ruprecht and Leopold Segedin.
