A St. Louis native who took to working at Tower Grove Music fresh out of high school intent on making music a lifelong endeavor, Mike Zito plays the blues like nobody’s business. After years of touring the country, releasing four independent records and making a good name on the circuit, he signed a good deal with Eclecto Groove Records a few years back and made a very good recording. With productions credits from David Z. of Prince fame and Tony Braunagel who worked with Taj Mahal and Eric Burdon, performances by an array of well known players including keyboardist Benmont Tench of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, bassist James “Hutch” Hutchinson who hung with Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs and Joe Cocker, Today became Zito’s calling card to the next level. Known for his fiery, yet lyrical, Gulf Coast style of electric guitar playing, Zito also gets quality marks for excellent singing and songwriting as well, putting him in the elite triple threat category of blues entertainers.
