Keeping that new year’s resolution to get in shape can be next to impossible if you try to do it alone. But if you don’t mind a little cold weather, you can get some motivation and support from a whole slew of like-minded people by joining one of Springfield’s friendliest running groups. The Half Wits running group starts training on Jan. 21 for Springfield’s Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon, which is scheduled for April 7. Soon to be renamed to a more politically-correct moniker (“Ice Abes” is a clever front-runner), the Half Wits welcome all experience levels – from experienced marathoners to complete beginners. Saturday morning “long runs” start at 7 a.m., usually from Café Moxo downtown. Monday and Wednesday training runs usually take place at 5:30 p.m. in the beautiful Washington Park. The group is completely free and is affiliated with the Springfield Road Runner’s Club, so you know you’re getting good training.
