GOT DRUGS

Start your spring cleaning this weekend by clearing out that medicine cabinet. Bring all expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs to Prevention First at 2800 Montvale Drive Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Let the Springfield Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Association take unneeded medications off your hands. The prescriptions will be collected and then incinerated, an effort to keep pills out of the water supplies and prevent prescription drug abuse.

Individuals can remain anonymous and will not be asked for identification. Remember to remove labeling from prescriptions in order to remain anonymous.

The event is supported by City Water, Light and Power.

“Currently there aren’t many options for disposing of prescription medications safely,” says Amber Sabin, public information officer at CWLP. “We’re not aware of many of the pharmacies that are able to do that and certainly most people don’t have incinerators in their homes.”

Sabin says that the city is hoping to get a good turnout and collect as many prescription drugs as possible.
