Ooh, Applaud, Gape and Gaze at 365 days of Arts & Culture from the ten parishes that make up the Northwest Louisiana Arts District and the Shreveport Regional Arts Council! The region has never had more to celebrate in one calendar year than the music, museums, art, theater, and spoken word that you will find in this season sampler from Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, Desoto, Lincoln, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine and Webster Parishes. We hope you will hold on to it throughout 2019-20 and use it as a convenient reference when you are planning your nights or afternoons out on the town.
Culture Calendar 365 is twelve full months of fresh, local, spell-binding art and culture presented by arts organizations across the Northwest corner of the state including the Bossier Arts Council, Creole Heritage Center in Natchitoches Parish, Cultural Crossroads in Webster Parish, Herbert S. Ford Memorial Museum in Claiborne Parish, North Central Louisiana Arts Council in Lincoln Parish, and the Shreveport Regional Arts Council to name only a few. Throughout this season sampler you will find dates, times and ticket pricing or events as well as brief descriptions and websites or phone numbers for further information.
Literally hundreds of events are included—something for all ages and every interest and passion. A few of the highlights of the year include SRAC’s RAINBOW CITY… in New York, Toronto, Hong Kong, Miami and now Shreveport—an outdoor experience featuring 35 whimsical, colorful, air-filled sculptures soaring 50 feet into the sky during a six-week festival opening Saturday, November 2 to celebrate opening THE COMMON Park in downtown Shreveport.
The Strand Theatre is calling its 2019-20 repertoire, “The Season That Pops,” It will include “American Girl Live,” “Finding Neverland” in February, “An American in Paris” in March. A sampling of the Shreveport Symphony season features Tchaikovsky’s 5 th , a Gershwin Celebration with Porgy and Bess, Holiday Pops with Hugh Panaro and Sarah Jane McMahon and The Music of Queen. The Shreveport Little Theatre kicks off 2019-20 with “Who’s In Bed with the Butler” September 5-15 and will bring a favorite to Shreveport for the holidays with “Miracle on 34 th St. December 14-22.
Among the organizations represented in the calendar are the Academy of Children’s Theatre, Agora Borealis, artspace, The Bossier Arts Council, Creole Heritage Center, Dixie Center for the Arts, Feist Weiller Arts in Medicine, The Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, Mahogany Theatre, Marlene Yu, Meadows Museum of Art, Noel Community Arts, North Central Louisiana Arts Council, Norsworthy Gallery, the R.W. Norton Art Gallery, Oasis of Hope Louisiana, Prize Fest, Red River Quilters, the Red River Revel, the Renzi Center, The Shreveport Little Theatre, Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet, The Shreveport Opera, the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Shreveport Water Works Museum, Shufflin’ Along, the Spring Street Museum, Stage Central LA, and The Strand Theatre.
