GIVE FOR ARTBREAK’S NEW EXCEPTIONAL FRIEND IN RAINBOW CITY

When ARTBREAK closes at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, start gathering a full head of S.T.E.A.M. counting down the nine days and seven hours to May 7 when you can GIVE FOR GOOD … GIVE FOR ARTBREAK!

Giving for the Good of ARTBREAK is a gift to the hundreds of ways ARTBREAK celebrates the accomplishments of Caddo Parish students through theatre, creative writing, music, film, storytelling, dance and movement, visual arts, culinary arts, S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) learning and artists with exceptionalities from the Caddo Schools Department of Exceptional Children.

The Shreveport Regional Arts Council is asking that you Give for Good: to create the firstever student-designed “Exceptional Friend” to live in RAINBOW CITY in the new COMMON PARK in the heart of the downtown revitalization project Shreveport Common.

During the ArtBreak weekend, children of all ages from throughout Northwest Louisiana are invited to work with professional Northwest Louisiana artists directed by William Joyce to add their creativity to the design of the new “Exceptional Friend” for THE COMMON PARK. At the conclusion of ArtBreak, the Design Team will select one student work as the next character to create, inflate and install in RAINBOW CITY.

Working collectively as FriendsWithYou since 2002, artists Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III have a mission to spread the positive message of Magic, Luck and Friendship.

SRAC’s goal is to raise the $25,000 fabrication fee through Give for Good to bring the Exceptional Friend to life as an inflated sculpture! The winning design will be unveiled on Give for Good day, Tuesday, May 7, 2019!

Give For Good is North Louisiana’s largest day of giving. The event was established in 2014 by the Community Foundation of North Louisiana, and since then has raised over $8.1 million for our community! Give For Good allows community members to discover and engage with nonprofit organizations and make a contribution to causes they feel strongly about. Whether you give $10 or $10,000, you have a hand in transforming your community.

In 2018, Give For Good garnered over $1.8 million for area nonprofits. Those funds came from 4,454 donors representing 41 different states. That means that people from across the country are coming together to fund important initiatives in North Louisiana. We hope that you’ll be one of them!

Check out the Give for Good leader board at www.giveforgoodnla.org to see the impact that your gifts are having in our community. Together, we create a stronger, more vibrant North Louisiana!
