Blake Jackson’s newest venture, Whisk Dessert Bar, opened on Azalea Drive Sept. 16 with a media preview the night before. Whisk features handcrafted cookies, miniature confections, house-made gelato and plated desserts. The concept is inspired by the designer dessert bars that are gaining traction such larger cities as Austin and New Orleans. Jackson is also the owner of Drake Catering.

The American Cancer Society hosted its10th Baron’s Ball on Aug. 26 at Southern Trace Country Club. White Out Cancer was the theme, and guests were encouraged to dress in all white. The party featured live music by Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs, dancing, and silent and live auctions.All funds generated from the event will be used by the American Cancer Society to help patients in the Caddo/Bossier community.

Roaring into Our ’20s was the theme of this year’s Life Savers’ Gala benefiting the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center in Shreveport. Sam’s Town Casino and Hotel played host to the event on Sept.16. The party featured a large silent auction, a speakeasy lounge, extravagant raffle packages and entertainment by the band Stormy. All money raised goes to support cancer research and treatment in the community. – Mark Crawford

Margaritaville Resort Casino hosted SIP, UNLIMITED, a wine, food and entertainment experience showcasing restaurants and wines from around the globe. The event celebrated Kuan Lim, owner of Lucky Palace. Proceeds from the Sept.10 event honored Lim’s life of service to the community, industry, friends and his guests. The Krewe of Highland hosted their coronation Aug. 18 at the Remington Suite Hotel in downtown Shreveport. This year’s theme is Enter Into Our Labyrinth, and attendees were encouraged to dress in costume. Hors d'oeuvres were provided by SALT, Shreveport Aquarium’s in-house restaurant. – Mark Crawford
