
Eye of the Beholder: Sip & See Guest Speaker: Mandie Ebarb, ceramic artist

Tuesday, June 20, 3:30 p.m. Tower Ballroom Paintings by noted cowboy artist Jack Terry and landscapist Stephen Hannock, as well as a painting and ceramic vases from retired Col. Norman Davis’s tour of duty in Vietnam, are among works of art to be displayed in “Eye of the Beholder: Sip & See,” an exhibition of artworks collected by Tower at The Oaks residents. Terry is best known for western and cowboy art, and his work can be found in the homes of actor Burt Reynolds, singer Travis Tritt, local professional golfer Hal Sutton and former President George W. Bush. Hannock’s “Maternal Nocturne: Clearing Storm” hangs in the Whitney Museum of American Art. Guests will enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres as they view the various pieces, before a presentation by ceramic artist Mandie Ebarb. The gallery manager of Agora Borealis will discuss art and how it brings purpose to one’s life. Cost: $5, nonresidents. Registration is required.

Bowdon returns to The Oaks with a two-part review of a fascinating
portrait of the American presidency through the eyes of Secret Service
agent Clint Hill. Hill reflects on his 17 years protecting Presidents of
the United States, during which time he got a front-row seat to the
Cold War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassinations of John F.
Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, the Vietnam War,
Watergate and the resignations of Spiro Agnew and Richard Nixon. Cost: $5, nonresidents. Registration is required.

Talking Movies: The Invention of Motion Pictures Guest Speaker: Meghan Hochstetler,
executive director of Robinson Film Center Friday, June 30, 3 p.m. Tower Ballroom Meghan will take us back in time to when the earliest movies were made.
Due
to the limits of early technology the first films were under a minute
long. This changed in the early 1900’s when motion pictures were
produced. Along with the invention of film, she will tell us about the
introduction of sound and color, which completely transformed the motion
picture industry. Cost: $5, nonresidents. Registration is required.
