GastroIntestinal Specialists announces that Dr. Humberto Aguilar and the Louisiana Research Center have been published in the “AGA, Gastroenterology Journal.” The article, “High Efficacy of ABT-493 and ABT-530 Treatment in Patients with HCV Genotype 1 or 3 Infection and Compensated Cirrhosis,” investigates patients infected with Hepatitis C and cirrhosis. AMANDA BREWER, DPT, HONORED WITH CHAMPION OF PHYSICAL THERAPY AWARD

Brewer Physical Therapy owner Amanda Brewer, DPT, has been honored with Champion of Physical Therapy Award and named vice president of the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association. She was recognized for her vital role in the passage of Louisiana’s Direct Access to Physical Therapy Bill. The bill allows physical therapists to treat patients without a referral for up to 30 calendar days.

Brewer will maintain the position of vice president for three years. She received her master’s degree in physical therapy from Louisiana State University of Allied Health Shreveport in 2005, then earned her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2007. Amanda has been a practicing physical therapist for more than eight years. Her expertise also extends to helping overweight and obese patients.

FREE FLU SHOTS TO ENROLLED VETERANS AT OVERTON BROOKS VA MEDICAL CENTER

Overton Brooks VA Medical Center will offer free flu shots to enrolled veterans during scheduled clinic appointments and in special walk-in flu shot clinics. The walk-in flu clinic is open 1-3 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through Nov. 17. No appointment necessary. Check-in at the 1South4 reception desk at the front entrance of the south wing. VA identification card required. Veterans may also contact their local participating Walgreens Pharmacy for a free veteran flu shot.
