May dinner
meeting, held
at the
Petroleum Club
of Shreveport.
Graf was
chairman of
the Kitchen
Tour, the
JLSB’s newest
fundraising event,
for the
2014-15 year.

the League’s
2014-15 Meeting
With A Mission
coordinator. JLSB
Meeting With
a Mission
collects donations
at each
of the
nine general
membership meetings
for organizations
in the
Shreveport-Bossier community
that share
the League’s
focus on
at-risk women
and children.
This year,
the JLSB
adopted Westwood
Elementary, a
school in
Caddo Parish’s
“Transformation Zone,”
as the
yearlong recipient
of their
Meeting With
a Mission
donations.

Sharon Dunn,
Rehabilitation Sciences
Department head
and director
of the
physical therapy
program at
LSU Health
Shreveport’s School
of Allied
Health Professions,
has been
elected president
of the
American Physical
Therapy Association.
In this
capacity, she
will represent
more than
90,000 member
physical therapists,
physical therapist
assistants and
students of
physical therapy
in seeking
to advance
physical therapist
practice, education,
and research,
and by
increasing the
awareness and
understanding of
physical therapy’s
role in
the nation’s
health care
system. She
joined the
faculty of
the School
of Allied
Health Professions
in 1990
and became
vice president
of the
APTA in
2012.

Now in
its fifth
year, the
award celebrates
excellence in
hospitality and
is given
only to
establishments that
consistently achieve
great traveler
reviews on
TripAdvisor. Certificate
of Excellence
winners include
accommodations, eateries
and attractions
located all
over the
world that
have continually
delivered a
superior customer
experience. In
selecting Certificate
of Excellence
winners, TripAdvisor
uses a
proprietary algorithm
to determine
the honorees
that takes
into account
the quality,
quantity and
recency of
reviews and
opinions submitted
by travelers
on TripAdvisor
over a
12-month period
as well
as business’
tenure and
ranking on
the Popularity
Index on
the site.
To qualify,
a business
must maintain
an overall
TripAdvisor bubble
rating of
at least
four out
of five,
have a
minimum number
of reviews
and must
have been
listed on
TripAdvisor for
at least
12 months.
• LSU
Shreveport is
honored to
have one
of its
mathematics professors,
Dr. Rick
Mabry, to
be recognized
as a
successful teacher.
Mabry received
the Distinguished
Teaching Award
from the
Louisiana/Mississippi section
of the
MAA. Professor
and Chair
of Mathematics
Dr. Tibor
Szarvas nominated
Mabry for
his excellence
in his
understanding and
teaching of
the subject
material. Mabry’s
knowledge of
mathematics enabled
him to
effectively teach
his students
and create
an interesting
classroom learning
experience. Mabry
also made
a point
to encourage
his students
in and
out of
the classroom,
even to
go so
far as
to encourage
them to
start their
own research
and publish
material in
mathematics journals
with him.
Mabry retired
from his
career in
the middle
of May
after teaching
at LSUS
for 26
years. He
is now
in the
process of
moving to
Germany. The
mathematics department
has been
grateful for
Mabry’s addition
to the
university.
• Blanchard,
Walker, O’Quin
& Roberts
plans to
move its
Shreveport office
from the
Chase Tower
to the
Regions Tower
this month.
The new
office is
less than
block from
the current
location. Blanchard
Walker will
occupy the
entire seventh
floor of
a 24-story,
multi-tenant office
building located
in downtown
Shreveport. Construction
of the
new space
is slated
to be
complete in
the next
two weeks.
