Publication takes Editorial Sweepstakes for second year
The Forum took home a total of 17 Louisiana Press Association Awards, including Editorial Sweepstakes for the second year in a row.
“We just keep on getting better each year,” Forum Publisher Jay Covington said. “This is a huge accomplishment for our dedicated staff that made quite an impression on the judges in these categories.”
Of the 17 awards, Forum won six first-place awards. Here are the first place categories and winners: Best News Coverage, “Who Will Be Our Next Mayor” by Lou Gehrig Burnett; Best News Story, “Renee’s Run” by Joe Todaro; Best Breaking News Story, “Williams takes Top Earhart Award” by Lydia Earhart; Best News Photo by Dallas Goins; Best Staff Generated Color advertisement, Yarn on Youree by Brittany White and Best Services Ad Non-Retail advertisement, Center for Hand Surgery by White.
Forum also placed in these categories: Best Front Page, “Drones” by White (third place); Best Feature Story, “Letters from
Vietnam” by Kirk Fontenot (third place); Best Use of Graphic Design on a
Single Page, “Fastbreak at the Fair” by Matt Muhitch (second place);
Best News Photo, Goins and Muhitch (second and third place); Best Photo
Package, Silver Star Smokehouse images, Muhitch (third place); General
Excellence (third place) and Best Non Services Ad Non-Retail, White
(second and third place).
“These awards speak volumes to the type of talent that we have in-house and in our community,” Earhart, Forum editor, said. “We are very proud our staff is continuing on this successful path.”
Earhart said the graphics team took the competition to another level.
“We might have a small graphics department, but this team owned this competition.
We had trouble selecting which designs would get an LPA nomination,” Earhart said. “This past year was an excellent year, we have seen some of the best, most solid designs and advertisements last year and presently.”
Forum’s graphics department previously won two, second- and third-place awards for design at the American Ad Federation’s ADDYs earlier this year.
“With each award our team wins, it speaks to the creativity and ability this staff can produce,” Earhart said. “The advertising awards were well deserved.
Our graphics department delivers the best to our advertisers and the community.”
