Ronnie Remedies is one local businessman who knows how to efficiently and effectively spin a dozen plates at once—and do it well. Not only is Remedies currently the General Manager and President of Shreveport Limousine, he also is the Managing Partner at Twin Oak Investments.
He opened Shreveport Limousine in 2001 with only one limousine while working as a Shreveport fireman. “I opened this business just one month after the 9/11 attacks,” said Remedies. “Everyone except my mother told me I’d never make it. But I noticed a lack of quality service in our market, especially in regards to attention to detail and giving clients more than they expected.”
Remedies decided to do something about it, and built his business by simply providing superior service. He also is a big believer in positive character. “How you act when things go wrong is something frequently overlooked in the customer service industry,” said Remedies. “How you react to adversity says everything about your integrity, management style and character.”
Today, Remedies owns of one the largest fleets in North Louisiana, which is open seven days a week, every day of the year, and offers not just stretch limousines but also sedans and luxury SUVS.
“This is where we connect with celebrity clients,” said Remedies. “Most high profile individuals, Corporate CEO’s, and celebrities use our business again and again because of our professionalism. Requesting photographs, autographs, or anything of value from clients is strictly forbidden. All of our staff is held to strict non-disclosure agreements and prohibited from revealing our clients requests and schedules.”
Shreveport Limousine was voted the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year in 2013, as a testament of their work in the customer service industry. “Your experience with Shreveport Limousine will be hands down better than with any other company around,” said Remedies. “We don’t just talk a big game when it comes to making clients happy, we show you the difference.”
Some of those differences offered via Shreveport Limousine includes confirmation calls and emails for each trip, driver wake-up calls for all trips before 9 a.m., GPS tracking with speed alerts on all vehicles, and reservation software that tracks all clients.
If that wasn’t enough, Remedies also stays busy with Twin Oak Investments. What once began as a small company flipping residential homes and managing rental properties has now morphed into a thriving commercial real estate company. Twin Oak Investment spent much of 2007 and 2008 developing and leasing the Northwood Shopping Center, north of Shreveport where I-49 crosses LA Highway 1 as well as several smaller projects.
Since then, Twin Oak Investment has moved into urban development and has taken on a large project in Downtown Shreveport. “This extremely blighted part of the city was neglected for nearly fifteen years, and several buildings were near disrepair,” said Remedies. “Using local and state tax incentives, we were able to put a business plan together to restore the buildings, clean up the neighborhood and bring businesses to Downtown Shreveport. This multimillion dollar project is still underway and we are in final stages of negotiation to bring a manufacturing facility in, creating jobs and more activity in the area.”
Needless to say, a day in the life of Ronnie Remedies always varies. He usually starts his morning with a trip to the gym with his personal trainer, Robert Blount. After that, it’s straight to work, whether that’s fielding phone calls, checking in with management staff, hosting meetings, designing or ordering limousines, checking email, reviewing contracts and leases, inspecting vehicles or creating his favorite—a to-do list. “I’m obsessive about my todo lists,” said Remedies. “It’s the only way I stay on top of everything.” Somehow, Remedies still finds time to volunteer and serve around his work schedule. He currently serves on the Caddo/Shreveport Metropolitan Planning ng Commission and is the 2015 Secretary, also is the 2015 President of the North Shreveport Business Association, 2015 President of the Chief Executives Organization and is an elected member mber of the State Central Committee of the Republican Party of Louisiana.
“I love my city and community and have lived here all of my life. Instead of complain about all of the things wrong with Shreveport, I choose to get involved and make a positive change. Shreveport has so much to offer, I think it’s time we change our way of thinking and move forward. We have many new leaders here that are helping make that happen.”
His family is also very important to him, including his fiancée Andrea and his son, Wesley. Time with them is always incorporated into his busy day. “Juggling priorities is the toughest part of what I do, but worth it,” said Remedies. “I don’t want to miss out on my son’s childhood and I try to be as involved as possible. This year I served as his Den Leader for Cub Scouts. It was enjoyable seeing him shoot guns, set up camp and learn many life lessons.”
He also enjoys spending time at his place on Lake Greeson, in Arkansas, entertaining friends, and flying. Remedies is a private pilot with an instrument rating and over 1,000 hours of flight time.
Remedies faith also helps him stay grounded. “I’m a Christian, and believe that everything I have is a gift from God and could be taken away tomorrow,” said Remedies. “What I have is not because I’m great, but because God has given it to me to use in the missions he has set for me.”
Remedies has sound advice for others looking to make their career dreams a reality. “The biggest problem I see is many people want success, but only if it comes between 8am- 5pm,” said Remedies. “After that, they begin to complain about the hours and identifying everything they are sacrificing. But there is a huge tradeoff in working for yourself versus someone else. You have the freedom to do what you want. The price you pay is worrying about employees, cash flow, government compliance, and customer demands.”
