Outdoor kitchens are just starting to catch on in the Shreveport-Bossier City area, and Michael Sylkatis, owner of Custom Order Outdoor Kitchens, is seeing the trend bloom.

“We have a great climate almost year round and you can get out quite often and enjoy the outdoors, having the mild winters typically. People want to get outside and spend time with their family, and so why not enjoy cooking and having a meal outside as well,” Michael said. There are many different options available for creating a unique outdoor space, and Michael caters to the customer on a case by case basis. “Definitely a great grill is front and center, but now we are adding iPod connections and speakers – people are adding in entire entertainment systems to enjoy,” Sylkatis said.

Many of the additions are based on budget, but Michael and his wife Barbara are able to create an inviting space at the fraction of the cost. “Lights and sinks are very popular, and we also have people install refrigerators, but that is kind of lifestyle based,” Sylkatis said. “It’s kind of taking the entire setup and making an outdoor kitchen instead of just a grill on a cart. It’s becoming a whole new living space.”
