St. Jude gearing up for dream home giveaway

One ticket means one chance to win a dream home.

Participants in the KTBS St. Jude Dream Home giveaway are guaranteed the ticket money will impact the lives of children battling cancer.

Tickets are available for a chance to win the dream home with an estimated value of $325,000. The winner will be announced Aug. 10 on KTBS 3.

Tickets are $100 and available online at www.stjude.org/dhshreveport. And all proceeds benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“The concept behind it all is that these children who are battling cancer; it’s their dream to survive,” Anna Hensgens, St. Jude’s event marketing representative, said. “You’re helping them fight childhood cancer.”

The home featured is located in Rosedale Subdivision in Bossier City and has an estimated 2,400 square feet. The front of the home features multiple columns and a black iron door. It also includes a two-door garage, plus hardwood flooring by Shaw Floors.

This is the 24th year Rodgers Homes & Construction Inc. has signed on to build the house with 42 sub-contracting companies helping from floor to ceiling donating time, services and supplies to the house. The construction company broke ground Jan. 28.

“It’s a dream not only to win a house, but it’s a dream for these kids to beat cancer and survive until adulthood,” Hensgens said, explaining each house is always built from the ground up. The lot constructed on which the home is constructed is also donated.

The house is open for tours every weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays through Aug. 3. Guests can register for free at the house to win the open house prize: a $10,000 gift card to Designer’s Showroom.

“The house is staged with furniture by Designer’s Showroom, and by visiting, guests can register to win the $10,000 gift card,” Hensgens said. “Everything such as the fixtures and appliances will stay [for the winner].”

The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway was created in 1991 by Dr. Donald Mack, a Shreveport pediatrician. The first dream home was constructed in Shreveport and raised $160,000 for the hospital. Since that first giveaway, the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway in Shreveport has become an annual fundraiser, raising more than $23 million for the hospital.

To date, the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway has raised more than $260 million nationwide. This year, the program will include more than 30 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaways.

Tickets can be reserved at all Citizens National Bank locations, Porter’s Fine Dry Cleaning locations, County Market locations, G&C Honda, the KTBS 3/St. Jude Dream Home Open House, by phone at (800) 724-2423 or www.dreamhome.org. The home winner pays state raffle taxes before they take ownership.
