40th Birthday: Heather Enright celebrated her 40th birthday Jan. 31 at a party at her home given by her husband Michael Enright. Family and friends enjoyed food the couple had cooked in their new home and a chocolate chip cookie cake. Michael surprised Heather with a trip to see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden in New York City two days after the party.

Shots with Steve: Legendary skateboard artists Steve Olsen, David Hackett, Tim Kerr, Jason Jessee, Lance Mountain, Neil Blender, Brian Lotti, Clint Perterson and Dennis McNett were celebrated at the home of Linda B. Goldsberry as part of Shreveport Regional Arts Council’s UNSCENE! February excitement. Guests sampled foods, enjoyed cocktails and margaritas and sipped premium tequilas. On the scene were Josh and Megan Porter, Shreveport City Councilman Michael Corbin and wife Trichea, and Bob Atchison.



Winter Wine Tasting: Chianti Restaurant hosted a Winter Wine Tasting Dinner on Feb. 10. The fourcourse meal included delicious options like fresh grilled salmon with crisp polenta in a white cream sauce and semi-boneless quail, marinated in olive oil and herbs. Wine parings included Bersano Barbara D’asti and Vesevo Aglianico, both from Italy. Chianti plans to host a spring wine-tasting dinner in May.



Strand Theatre: The trumpets could be heard all throughout downtown no doubt Feb. 14 as The Strand Theatre played host to Brass Transit, The Musical Legend of Chicago. Songs like “Saturday In The Park” and “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” entertained the nearly soldout crowd. The Strand has a busy Spring season ahead including “Sweet Charity” on March 21 and “Hello Dolly” on March 25.


DiamondJacks: Tracy Lawrence made another concert appearance Feb. 15 at DiamondJacks. The casino held a special meet-and-greet before he performed.




Justinian Queen’s Tea: Queens
of the Krewe of Justinian hosted a royal tea in honor of Justinian
Queen XX Berry Glassell on Feb. 16 at the home of Sonya Medlin, Queen
XIX. The event was catered by B Rose Catering of Minden. Queens from
other krewes were in attendance.



Sci-Port Dinner: Sci-Port:
Louisiana’s Science Center unveiled the first phase of an $8.9 million
capital campaign Feb. 18, which includes a new children’s museum and a
Louisiana gallery. The first phase, Itty Bitty City, will be a
children’s museum housed inside Sci-Port, expanding the center’s
exhibits and programming for the youngest visitors. The space, costing
around $2 million, will be geared toward younger children, providing an
age-appropriate, informal educational experience. Set to open late fall
2015, Itty Bitty City will be a “museum within a museum,” a business
model science centers across the country are embracing for mission and
education-related reasons, as well as financial reasons. This expansion
of the center’s audience to include the youngest learners will allow
them to literally grow up with Sci-Port.

Retirement Party: Ted
Roberts was honored with a retirement party for 46 years of service
with State Farm. The party was held Feb. 21 at the Southern Hills
Business Association. He received a surprise gift of a framed flag flown
on a Barksdale Air Force Base B-52 that included the speed and mileage
of the flight.

BPCC: Larissa
Phillips, the 18-year-old daughter of Collette and Lee Phillips, is the
25th Ms. BPCC, selected in a pageant Feb. 22 on campus. Seven other
women competed in casual and evening wear with interviews held prior.
Phillips is majoring in criminal justice. She plans to transfer to
Stephen F. Austin to obtain a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and
work as a patrol officer. Ms. BPCC first runner-up was Emily Jones, a
sophomore engineering major. The Ms. BPCC contestants are judged on
leadership in academic and extracurricular activities, citizenship,
service to the college, poise, personality and personal attractiveness.
Various prizes are awarded including a full-tuition scholarship plus
books for the Ms. BPCC titleholder. Ms. BPCC represents Bossier Parish
Community College as a spokesperson and community ambassador.


80th Birthday: A
50s party was the theme of an 80th birthday party for Phil Blaufuss
given by his daughters, Sheryl Marlowe and LeeAnn Blaufuss on Feb. 23.
Savoie’s was decorated with large cardboard soda shop and diner signs.
Candy from the 1950s adorned each table. The honoree’s cake wished him a
rockin’ birthday. Blaufuss is an active member of the Shreveport and
Bossier City Optimist clubs.
