DDA, DSDC contribute $50,000 to help finish new CoHab facility

The CoHabitat Foundation announced it finished renovations to its new co-working facility in the newly revitalized Red River District under the Texas Street Bridge thanks to $50,000 in finishing funds contributed by Shreveport’s Downtown Development Authority and the Downtown Shreveport Development Corporation.

Funds from DDA and DSDC have allowed the nonprofit shared workspace to expand its mission to support Shreveport-Bossier City entrepreneurs and small businesses.

“The DDA and DSDC are doing incredible work towards revitalizing downtown Shreveport, and we at CoHab are excited to be part of the work that they’re doing for our city,” said CoHab Executive Director John Grindley. “We could not have finished and made this facility such an extensive resource for local entrepreneurs without their support.”

The DDA and DSDC each contributed $25,000 in funding to finish the project.

CoHab has used the funding to recreate and repurpose the once restaurant into an epicenter for creative and local economic development in downtown Shreveport. The relocation promises to bring new crowds into the revitalized Red River District Project.

“We believe in CoHab’s mission as much now as we did initially,” Liz Swaine, executive director of the DDA/DSDC, said. “The DDA has now contributed more than $200,000 to help create a space for entrepreneurs and small businesses to thrive and grow.

We could not have finished and made this facility such an extensive resource for local entrepreneurs without their support.

We are especially excited about the youth and energy CoHab brings to downtown.’’ CoHab members began working from the new facility Sept. 3. A public grand opening for the facility with take place Sept. 20. For more information about CoHab, go to cohab.org or call 759-7997.
