 Wine-Tastings: This summer, Wine Country played host to several wine-tastings in their bottle shop on Line Avenue in Shreveport, with themes like “Who’s Your Pinot?” and “I’ve Never Been To Spain, But I Kinda Like The Wine.” Several wine-tastings are planned for this fall. Cancer Society: The North Louisiana American Cancer Society wants to give cancer the boot. They will host the Baron’s Ball at 6 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Shreveport Convention Center. A kickoff party was held at Cavender’s on July 25. Dress for the event was cowboy chic, and cancer survivors modeled some of the outfi ts available from Cavender’s. During the last six years, this event has raised more than $500,000 for the fi ght against cancer. A mechanical bull and casino gaming will be among activities at the ball. Tiger Football: Caddo-Bossier LSU Alumni & Fans held their annual Kickoff to Tiger Football on July 25 to raise money for academic scholarships for students from Caddo and Bossier parishes to attend LSU. The group completed the endowment for the 13th one named in honor Harman and Renae Chandler.
