Virginia Woolf: River City Repertory Theater presented the classic play “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” July 4 at the East Bank Theatre in Bossier City. The play starred Susan Kirton, Patric McWilliams, Logan Sledge and Ellen Lindsay. The five-show run was directed by Bob Buseick, and virtually every performance played to a soldout crowd.
BizCamp: BizCamp Banquet was held July 24, and the theme was remembering Sandy Hook. Keynote speaker was Michael Dorn, executive director of Safe Havens International Inc., a global nonprofit school safety center whose analysts have worked in more than two dozen countries. Banquet honorees included: Col. Michael Edmonson, state police superintendent and U.S. Marshal Henry Whitehorn; James Elrod ICE Award: Sheriff Steve Prator and Sheriff Julian Whittington; Maxine Sarpy Presidents Award: Police Chief Willie Shaw; Sam Giordano Board Award; and Marshal Lynn Austin and Marshal Charlie Caldwell, Community Award. ICE is the Inner City Entrepreneur Institute that provides cutting-edge entrepreneurship education, life skills and leadership training for today’s at-risk youth. Students are exposed to and actively participate in the real world of business through the BizCamp program developed in conjunction with such partners as the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Caddo Parish Schools, Centenary College and Southern University at Shreveport as a vehicle to propel many youngsters toward a life of independence and leadership. Pianist Chynna McClinton, 11, entertained the audience before the program and graduate success stories were showed.
