Carla: The Salvation Army’s Women’s and Children’s Shelter, known as Carla’s Haven, was dedicated June 18. The ribbon-cutting was in honor of the late Carla Lenert Boyd, a past president of the Salvation Army Auxiliary and advocate for helping people in need. Her family and friends rallied to give the shelter a makeover to comfort those who reside there. Bright linens, a children’s play area, new television and spiritual reading materials are provided. Boyd’s parents, siblings and daughter cut the ribbon.
Bingo: The Women’s Council of Realtors presented Beach Blanket Bingo on June 20 at East Ridge Country Club. Mary Ann Van Osdell, legislative assistant to Sen. Barrow Peacock and The Forum’s society contributor, called the games, providing trivia and historical information on the numbers. Prizes included a cruise, iPad mini, large grill, fi shing trip, beach condo trip and cash. There was also a silent auction. Sponsorships ranged from the Big Kahuna to Beachcombers to Spring Breakers. Organizers wore monogrammed fi shing shirts, and centerpieces were colorful pails, beach balls and shells. Organizers included Judy Holland, Karen Baker, Molly Gray, Ashley Brint, Amber Free, Frances King, Marty Van Cleave, Bridget Benton and Tiffany DeBlieux.
“Au Cinema:” “Au Cinema,” a fashion runway show by local designer Jane Ryder, featured her clothing and fascinators June 29 at artspace. The ensembles combined fashion and Hollywood glamour in fi ve categories: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s;” “A Few Good Men;” “Jekyll and Hyde;” “The Great Gatsby;” and “Beautiful Creatures.” Jekyll and Hide showed clothes refurbished from other decades. On the runway were ensembles fi t for evening, bridal and contemporary wear. Ryder has worked as a seamstress and costume designer for several fi lms, including “Olympus Has Fallen,” “Mad Money” and “The Iceman.” She has worked with Gerard Butler, Nicolas Cage and Joan Rivers. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Caddo-Bossier Cancer Foundation.
