Downs: Exotic animal races were held May 27 at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs. Jockeys perched atop ostriches and camels. The event was part of Memorial Day weekend activities. The animals came from Kansas.

Hall & Oates: Horeshoe’s Riverdome hosted the legendary Hall & Oates in a sold-out concert June 1. The crowd sang along to songs such as “You Make My Dreams Come True,” “Private Eyes” and “Sara Smile.” Upcoming concerts at Horseshoe’s Riverdome include Ron White, Gary Allan, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams Jr. and Cheap Trick.

Food Bank: Empty Bowls was both a luncheon and evening event this year. Held June 6 at Eldorado Casino and Hotel, attendees to each event enjoyed a lunch/dinner featuring soups, bread, dessert and a beverage. Hand-painted ceramic bowls as well as donated goods and services were auctioned off in a silent auction at the evening event. Each attendee received a bowl of his or her choice. These bowls serve to remind the attendees of the empty bowls in our community that do not get fi lled.

Eye: iSupport took place June 6 at Ramano’s Macaroni Grill on Youree Drive. From 5 p.m. to closing, the restaurant donated 15 percent of ticket prices to the Louisiana Lions Eye Bank for those showing the wait staff a specifi c fl yer.
