Trash: For the third year in a row, Shreveport Common put together teams for the Keep America Beautiful Great American Clean- Up. The Day of Action was held the morning of April 13. Participants received T-shirts, coffee, donuts and a good feeling picking up trash and painting around the area of Shreveport Regional Arts Council’s new Central ARTSTATION. Following the clean-up, a hotdog lunch and tour of Central ARTSTATION were provided.

Meeting: A Kentucky Derby party was held at the Louisiana Federation of Republican Women’s spring board meeting in Lafayette in May. The party was held to celebrate the upcoming National Federation of Republican Women Convention in Louisville. Sylvia Norton is protocol chairman of LFRW and the Professional Republican Women of Caddo.

Craw sh Boil: The Ark-La-Tex Association of Professional Landmen and the Shreveport Geological Society had their annual Spring Fling on May 17 at East Ridge Country Club. The annual event marks the end of the year for both organizations as they join together to celebrate the oil and gas industry. The Cajunthemed gathering was fi lled with live music, dancing and boiled crawfi sh. Joey and the Vindicators performed.

Epic: The animated fi lm “Epic” debuted with a VIP grand opening screening May 24 at the Regal Cinema at the Louisiana Boardwalk with an introduction by producer, writer and production designer William Joyce and screenwriter James V. Hart. The screening was a private event for sponsors of “The Making of ‘Epic’” exhibition currently on display at artspace. After the movie, the Slug Bug Brigade caravanned to artspace for the exclusive, private grand opening of “The Making of ‘Epic’” exhibition, which is a collection of Joyce’s art following the evolution of “The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs” to “Epic.” The exhibit will run through July 27.
