 Co-chairs grateful for event coverage
Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to chair the third annual An Evening for Heroes. It was a night to celebrate our area’s first responders and medical professionals for the selfless and lifesaving work they do. The LSU Health Sciences Foundation hosts the event to help fund trauma and other essential services at LSU Medical Center. We are proud to report that we were able to raise more than $250,000 – the most ever for the event. We want to thank The Forum for helping us honor these deserving individuals and raise money for this outstanding institution. Your wonderful cover article helped publicize both the event and the lifesaving care that goes on in our community every day. Thanks to all of our sponsors, especially our title sponsor Willis- Knighton Health System, it was a very memorable and uplifting evening. More than 850 people watched two dramatic video stories of rescue involving our local heroes! If you missed the event, go to http://lsuhsfoundation.org to see these incredible videos. Working with Chancellor Robert Barish and his team confirmed our belief that we are very fortunate to have LSU Health Shreveport in this community. Thank you for helping us with this worthwhile event. Linda and Richard Biernacki Co-chairs, 2013 An Evening for Heroes Reader appreciative of columnist’s expression
Mr. Avallone, I want to express my appreciation for your article, “A Motto to Live By,” in May 29 issue of The Forum. As a retired Army chaplain, I am concerned about the “damaging attempt to pull God from our daily lives.” Your references to Roosevelt’s prayer on D-Day and other thoughts deserve a “thank you!” I retired in 2006 after 30 years of active duty – 25 as a chaplain and four as enlisted, 1965-69. We moved to Shreveport to be close to my wife’s parents. Our son is an active duty Chaplain and our son-in-law is about to retire from active-duty, having served as an intelligence officer. Thank you again for you very wellexpressed article. Chaplain (COL) Fred Hudson, Ret. U. S. Army See also
