The perfect spring face to make you look nearly 10 pounds lighter
Q : I saw some contouring photos on Pinterest. What rules do you have for contouring and what products work best?
Katie: Kim Kardashian really put contouring on the map to say the least. Contouring can really take you to that ‘va va voom’ level without wearing a ton of makeup.
For those women like me who naturally have a rounder face and have indulged in a few too many Girl Scout cookies last month, it’s an excellent way to take off 10 pounds instantly.
Here are a few rules for contouring I have found after much trial and error:
1. Cream contouring looks more natural than using powder contouring. I prefer it.
2. If you use creams for contouring, they must be used under a foundation or tinted moisturizer – not over.
3. If you are using powder contouring products, the darker shades must have no shimmer and also be more taupe than bronze. This is why some people can look ‘dirty’ if they use bronzers for contouring.
Every girl needs a velour puff to buff out the final look so that you see no lines of demarkation – remember, ‘When in doubt, buff it out!’ Every girl no matter what age should have a velour puff in her makeup bag. It’s so crucial to natural looking makeup. I cannot do makeup without one.
Q: I want to try a new eye shadow for spring. What is the best for green eyes for the spring?
Katie: For spring, mixing light lilac and purple shades with bronze tones and gold tones really pops the eyes.
Any age can wear this combination.
Navy blue eyeliner with this look also is amazing and a quick way to pop green eyes even if there is no time for shadow!
Another
way to pop green eyes for spring is by wearing a berry shade of lip
color. Think about it as if you have been eating raspberries. A sheer
stain so you see color, while still looking modern and fresh.
When
wearing makeup for spring and summer think about clothing. In the
spring and summer, your clothing is lighter in texture, fabric weight
and color.
Makeup should be the same.
