Food draws fans for event

The 14th Annual Gentlemen’s Cooking Classic attracted 46 chefs and 13 “lil’ chefs” as well as a huge crowd June 22 at the Shreveport Convention Center. The event is hosted by the Southern University at Shreveport Foundation. Brookshire’s/Super 1 was the other major sponsor. Many elected officials served as chefs. Much of the food guests sampled was seafood, and there was a variety of desserts. Receiving the Mavice Colley Wallette Award were the Rev. E. Edward Jones, Virginia Shehee and Sen. Greg Tarver. Southern Gentlemen honorees this year were the Rev. Harry Blake, Dr. Emmanuel Igbokwe, Kevin McCotter and Ivan Smith Jr.
