[SCENE STEALERS ] MAKERS FAIR Event showcases artisans BY MARY ANN VAN OSDELL Rains threatened the Texas Avenue’s Makers Fair on April 27, but crowds came out to shop, listen to entertainment and eat. Held at the corner of Texas Avenue and Common Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the makers create, re-create, purpose, and re-purpose, re-imagine and recycle items for sale. They see endless possibilities in the ordinary. Vinyl signs become trendy shopping bags; mechanical gadgets take on life as jewelry; spare bits of antique fabric become fashionable flowers, hats and head wraps. One of the new items were wooden zip code blocks that said “feelin’ alive in 71105” and “get your kicks in 71106.” An unusual assortment of roving entertainers and performances were scheduled throughout the day, including jugglers.
