With Thanksgiving this week, total conventional dairy ad numbers declined 64 percent, while organic ads declined 81 percent nationally.

Ads for butter, compared to other dairy commodities, displayed a heavier volume of ads in both the conventional and organic categories. The weighted average price of 1-pound conventional butter, $3.18, compared to $5.37 for organic butter, represents an organic premium of $2.19.

As a percentage of total conventional dairy ads by commodity, cheese noted the highest volume of retail ads, 20 percent, followed by conventional butter and yogurt at 10 percent each.

Advertisements for organic dairy commodities primarily comprised milk, butter and yogurt, with percentages of total organic ads by commodity of 46 percent, 38 percent and 16 percent, respectively.

Gallon container organic milk reported the biggest jump in weighted average price of a dairy product from the previous week, up $2.03. Conversely, gallon container conventional milk represented the largest drop in weighted average price of a dairy product, down $1.02, compared to last week’s retail survey.
