At Roundhead Brewing, the first Latino-owned brewery in Massachusetts located in Hyde Park, it’s all about beer and community. Owners Luis Espinoza and Craig Panzer wanted to create a space where family and friends could gather over delicious food and a cold brew. Now they’re bringing that spirit to the rest of the city with a summer-wide traveling beer garden popping up around Boston.
The program began in June with a pop-up at A Street Park in South Boston. Throughout the summer Roundhead will hit six neighborhoods in Boston including Copley Square Park in Back Bay, Adams Park in Roslindale, LoPresti Park in East Boston, Jamaica Pond Pinebank in Jamaica Plain and the Brighton Common in Allston-Brighton.
Roundhead also has an ongoing beer garden at the former JP Gas station in Jamaica Plain at 561 Centre Street through Sept. 27.
“Boston’s parks are a refreshing place to bring together community members and create opportunities for local businesses,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “I am excited to see Roundhead Beer Garden travel across our lively parks for a second year as Boston continues to be a fun and family-friendly home for all with public spaces for all to enjoy.”
The Roundhead brews use Latin American flavors and hyper-local Massachusetts ingredients whenever possible. The Peruvian Red Ale is brewed
with Peruvian purple corn and notes of caramel and toffee, the Creamy
Mango IPA brings fresh, fruity flavors and the Berliner Weisse cheekily
claims to be “fermented with 72 hours of reggae music.”
“The
Roundhead Brewing Beer Garden series is a great example of how
partnerships with local businesses can build community, support public
spaces and invite people to enjoy our parks in a variety of ways,” said
the city’s Chief Climate Officer and Interim Parks Commissioner Brian
Swett.
Boston beer lovers can sample the unique flavors of these brews year-round at the Roundhead Brewing Company at
Westinghouse Plaza in Hyde Park. A full schedule of the dates for each
beer garden stop is available on the Roundhead website.
The
traveling beer garden series works on several levels. It allows
Roundhead to bring their beer and their cultural and community-based
mission to neighborhoods in Boston. It also creates active, outdoor
public space during Boston’s warm weather months. Most of all, Espinoza
hopes it brings Bostonians together.
“We
are proud to bring people together in our city to celebrate community
and spend time together,” said Espinoza, who also founded Roundhead
Brewing. “That’s our mission — cerveza que reune!”
